Art Journal Page...

After watching Louise Nelson's CJS 2013 video, I decided to explore crackle medium in this art journal spread. I had a little bottle of Decor Art One Step Crackle (from the dollar store) in my stash so I pulled it out and put it over the woman and let it dry for a couple of hours. I then added a watered down wash of white gesso, and as you can see in the close up, the cracks are quite evident.  As an afterthought  I added the crackle medium to the pendants at the top of the page, but this time I used a heat gun to dry them.  That seemed to be a mistake, since they really didn't crack much and when I applied a watered down black gesso it had almost no effect.  Live and learn...

    it depends of temperature - of you use hair fan (temperature is lower) - you may have cracles, but smaller than those without using drying device

      Thanks Kliaksa. That's great information. I'll experiment and see what I get, but for the most part I guess I'm best to be patient and just wait for it to air dry if I can.

      Linda, I agree - patience is always good )) But if you want cracles of different size - you may play with the temperature&time of drying

      Yes, good point. I also want to experiment with some different crackle mediums as I understand they give different effects too. My favourite look is the old cracked porcelain look.

      It's a four hour difference right now I think because we've just switched to Daylight Savings Time. It's 10:39 am here as I write this.

    Thank you Linda! I have finally found a use for the forlorn bottle of crackle medium I've had in my paint drawer for ages. I didn't really know how to use it, but layering the gesso over the top is so effective. Wonderful inspiration :)

    Linda; it also depends how much of the crackle medium you use. Heavier layer = more crackles.
    The porcelain crackle especially works this way :-)
