Mother Nature's Not Happy!

Last week I was cycling in shorts, and yesterday I drove through blizzard conditions to visit my Mom for Mother's Day.  Ironically, I took her to Rockway Gardens in Kitchener to see all the beautiful tulips.

It's a good thing I've got a tough little Momma!  We enjoyed our stroll through the gardens in spite of the awful, cold weather.




While there, someone asked if we knew the name of this beautiful flower.  Mom only knew the name in German, but as it turns out the direct translation, "King's Crown" turns out to be pretty accurate! "Fritillaria imperialis (Crown imperial or Kaiser's crown) is a species of flowering plant..."  Beautiful and smart...that's my Mom!

After The Storm

After the two day snow storm last week, we awoke to the most beautifully breathtaking sight out our windows. The neighbourhood was covered with a thick blanket of snow and it was early enough that it was still pristine...no footprints or tire tracks to mar the perfect covering of about six fresh inches of snow.  Then, we realized that because it was so wet and sticky, our snowblower probably wouldn't cope well with it and we'd have to shovel that heavy stuff...'sigh'.  But, on the bright side I got lots of exercise and fresh air!

Needless to say, I also took some pics.  This one was tinkered with in Lightroom, to bring up the blue tone in the sky just a bit and then I added Kim's kk_wonderfulmagic_scripted texture using a screen blend mode.  I decided to use the Sweetly Broken font for my text since I believe that's what Kim has used in some of her text around the border of the texture.

Having Fun with Photo Collages!

These photo collages or storyboards are addictive.  I did a search online for storyboard templates and found The Coffee Shop Blog.  It's wonderful!  Rita is passionate about photography and sharing her creations.  That's where I found this storyboard template.

In Beyond Layers, we've been encouraged to explore 'vision & blur', visual time capsules and storyboards.  I decided to combine all of these in this piece.  I especially love the top left photo in which the interesting texture on the tree is crisp while the background is blurry.  Last weekend my husband and I went to visit our friends, the Woodill's, in Michigan and although we arrived to green grass and spring-like temperatures, Saturday morning we had a big snowfall.  I wandered their huge property with my camera in my hand and Casey at my heels.  I couldn't help my self with the text - I just had to go for alliteration!  I think that's what Casey's laughing about in the top centre photo :0)
