Stitching Finally Resumes on My Shadows Piece...

I've got a couple of pieces that I had been working on prior to my cycling accident in May, which had to be set aside because I couldn't do any hand stitching.  Then, even though I could have started to work on them again, I just couldn't seem to get back to them.

However, these days, thanks to our new little foster puppy, (see Monday's post), the only fibre art I seem to be fitting in to my day is a little hand stitching while he's napping.  It's a good thing that young puppies need several naps a day!

This piece began as an iPhone photo of my elongated shadow, taken one summer evening while I was out walking our dog, Casey.  I played around with it in Photoshop, transferred it to fabric, and now I'm adding stitch to complete the piece.

I'm almost finished with the text, and then I'll move on to my shadows.  I have a couple of ideas for what I might do to add some stitch to the shadows.  Hopefully I'll be able to share the results soon.

Lupines...

When my son was four years old, I took him on a month long road trip to explore the maritime provinces.  We camped in our van and enjoyed discovering so many exciting and beautiful places.  Some of my friends thought I was crazy to take the trip, on my own with such a young child, but we had an incredible time!  One of the things that has stuck with me, were the incredible lupines that covered all of the roadsides in P.E.I.  Since then, when ever I see lupines I am reminded of that time.

This photo was taken down the street from our home.  The woman that lives there has an incredible green thumb and her entire front 'lawn' has been transformed into the most beautiful garden.

I've added Kim Klassens 'Autumn burst' texture and while I was experimenting with different blend modes and filters, I came up with this colourful version.  I'm sorry to say I don't remember how I got to this point, but I sure love the effect.

A little more tweaking resulted in this slightly different version. I really love the colours in this one!

"O" What An Interesting Tree...

The other day, while walking along Reynolds St. in Oakville, this tree caught my eye.

Okay, here's what it looked like before I started playing in Photoshop Elements. LOL.  All of a sudden that funny "O" makes sense.  I'm glad they found a way to make it work without cutting down the tree!

"Pop"

This week's photo challenge was "Pop" over on the Texture Tuesday site, so I decided to focus on that all important pop of colour that we see this time of year with the arrival of the first Robins of the Spring.  This photo was taken a few weeks ago, before our final snow storm, but it just seemed to provide that hope and promise of things to come. That bright orange breast and belly are a sure sign that winter is finally over!

I did a bit of an adjustment layer before adding Kim's new texture, kk_may, I also had to add a layer of some subtle grey behind the text so it didn't get lost in the cedar.

When thinking about pops of colour, flowers always 'pop' to mind too, so I've added these other two images, both treated with a layer of kk_may at soft light, with a mask on which the texture was removed from the focal blossom.
