I had an opportunity last Spring to see some alpaca's being shorn and was given some of the alpaca hair to experiment with in my fibre art. Using my embellisher, I needle felted the fibre's to create a base using the darker grey hair. I then incorporated some of my hand dyed cheesecloth over top of the alpaca felt. I added some circles in a lighter colour of alpaca hair, and intentionally left some of the long dark strands hanging so that I could later add beads to them.
I did a lot of machine stitch/thread sketching over the cheesecloth to bring out more of the copper and turquoise colour before moving to the hand beading. As for the title
Henry's Haircut...you guessed it, the dark gray alpaca's name is Henry.
Very cool!
ReplyDeleteStay inspired!
Thanks Michelle. I really should do more machine felting...so much fun!
DeleteVery nice! Is this another 12 x 12 piece?
ReplyDeleteThanks Jean, and yes it is another 12" square.
Deletecool technique, Linda. I like working with the embellisher too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Pat. I really should use the embellisher more, but there are so many ideas floating in my head that are competing to get out!
DeleteThat is amazing Linda, I envy your artistic skills. Thank you so much for sharing your inspiring work at our party :)

This is beautiful Linda. I love the strands hanging with the beads. Have you ever tried felting like this with cat fur or would it not work?
ReplyDeleteThanks Jane. I imagine cat fur would work, but the cat would probably resent being shorn. LOL We've also got a golden retriever and although I haven't used her fur, she's sure leaving enough around on the carpet these days (gotta love that Spring shed...). Perhaps that's something to experiment with.
DeleteSo glad you joined me for Wordless Wednesday Bloggers at our permanent home on The Jenny Evolution. Silence may be golden, but I hope you're making some noise this weekend.
