A Sneak Peek at a Challenge Quilt...

In case you thought I had given up totally on my sewing machine, I thought I'd give you a sneak peek at a piece I'm working on for our Group of Eight quarterly challenge.

I'm using fabric that I had marbled about two years ago. You can see the posts about that here and here.

All going well, I'll have it done for our meeting Wednesday when we have our challenge reveal, and of course I'll post the finished images here too.

Wish me luck. There are still many hours of quilting left to be done!

A Doodled Bag

The other day I noticed that an acquaintance of mine carries around a little bag of 'stuff' with her, but the bag was looking a little worse for wear.  Truth be told, it was falling apart!

Yesterday I was in the mood for some thread doodling so I used some of the marbled fabric that I had made back in December and made up a little patchwork bag (about 11" X 10.5").  I had fun doodling all over it with black thread, letting the design in the fabric inform my doodles.

I especially liked this little dragonfly that emerged.  There are also some flowers, a leaf and a bunch of random doodles.

I'll drop the bag off today, a little surprise RAK (random act of kindness), and hopefully it will bring a smile to her day.

I hope you're having a great day too!  :o)

A Day of Piecing

I spent some time yesterday piecing the marbled fabric for this new art quilt that I'm thinking I'll call "Count On It" unless I can come up with something more creative.  The numbers are all my own photographs (you can read about them in a previous post if you're interested).

Right now it's looking a bit disjointed, but I've got visions in my head that involve extensive free motion quilting, so hopefully what I see is what you will eventually see too!

If all else fails, I could donate it to a school as a funky 100's chart. LOL

Linking up with WIP Wednesday.

Work in Progress...

Yesterday I was going between a few different activities in my studio.  I can't seem to stay focussed on one thing for very long these days, so I've been starting a lot but not finishing anything...'sigh'.

Back in the Spring, I started to photograph numbers while out on my cycling trips.  It made for some disjointed rides since I was always stopping and pulling out my iPhone, but I ended up with a great collection of numbers from everything from road signs and telephone poles to rural mailboxes and house numbers.  I'm now starting an art quilt using my recently marbled fabric and those photographs.  Here's a bit of a preview of it.  So far I've transfered the images onto fabric and started to piece some of it.

As you know from previous posts, I've also been setting up a calendar journal for 2013. You can see the first three pages by clicking on these links: JanuaryFebruary, and March.  Well, today I got started on the drawings for the April page.  I'm afraid it's a bit cliche since I've gone with raindrops as the shape, but I've also added a few fun bits cut out of magazines.  I'm planning to use the Peerless watercolour paints to colour this page.

Hopefully I'll have some finished work to show you soon...thanks for your visit :o)

Dream Cat

Today I was working with some more of my newly marbled fabric and I got side tracked making a couple of ATCs.  I thread sketched the cats and then stitched on the little 'dream' charm so it would hang from the end of the tail.  I also used some TAP (Transfer Artist Paper) to add the words 'enjoy the journey'.  Considering that I was finishing the one for this months swap as my friends were coming up the driveway, I'm please to say I'm ahead of the game for the January swap!  As usual, I've made two so that I can keep one.  I like doing this because I can look through my collection to see all of the ones I have given as well as those I have received.
