What Do You Do...

What do you do while listening to TV?  Since I started hand stitching and beading, I've stopped watching much TV, but I listen to it a fair bit.  If I have beading or stitching to do I take it to the family room so I can be entertained while I work.  I sometimes wonder if I should be taking advantage of the programs that have described video for the visually impaired so that I wouldn't miss anything.  I must say, I do quite well to follow the movies and shows I 'watch' though.  When my husband is watching with me he'll sometimes ask if I saw this or that (I think it drives him a little crazy that I don't watch more attentively :o) but what can I do...) Since we have a PVR device, if I did miss it he'll back it up so I can see it.  However, if I'm 'watching' alone, I have no idea what I might have missed so it's all good.

Lately, while I've been 'watching' TV I've been doing kazillions of running stitches. My spell checker is questioning the word kazillion, but you get the idea.

Almost two years ago, I posted about this wonderful piece of silk that a generous friend gave to me ;O).  Thanks Heather!

I started by outlining shapes of colour and then filling them with running stitch, but it kept getting set aside for other hand stitching and beading that needed to get done.

I picked it up again in late December, and have been working on it quite a bit since then.  I don't know how much longer the hand stitching will take, but when it's done I do have an idea for what will come next.  For now, that's a secret.  The next time you see it, I will post the finished piece...don't hold your breathe, but I promise it won't take another two years!

  1. Here's how it goes at my house. I annoy the crap out of my husband by constantly asking "What just happened?" because I am always looking down!

  2. That's funny because my husband gets annoyed because I can't answer his question about what did they just say ;)...I am too busy sketching/drawing/coloring in my doodle journal ;) I have never been one to be able to sit in front of a TV and just 'watch'...it gives me the heebie jeebies.

    1. I know! I don't get the need for the great big screens...we just need good sound systems so we can hear what's happening :o)

  3. I listen to TV (dvds of series) or listen to movies. Since I'm listening, not watching, if something particularly interested me or if I realize I missed something important, I just rewind.

That said, last week I picked up a DVD of a series of mini-movies (an hour each) based on the short stories of Stephen King. There was one starring William Hurt that was completely silent. I actually had to *watch* that one later. ;)

    1. That's too funny. What's that Stephen King DVD called? That sounds like something I'd be interested in watching while I cycle. I've got my bike on a trainer indoors for winter and since I'm literally going nowhere fast, I like to watch DVDs or listen to audio books while I ride.
