Mother Nature's Not Happy!
Last week I was cycling in shorts, and yesterday I drove through blizzard conditions to visit my Mom for Mother's Day. Ironically, I took her to Rockway Gardens in Kitchener to see all the beautiful tulips.
It's a good thing I've got a tough little Momma! We enjoyed our stroll through the gardens in spite of the awful, cold weather.
While there, someone asked if we knew the name of this beautiful flower. Mom only knew the name in German, but as it turns out the direct translation, "King's Crown" turns out to be pretty accurate! "Fritillaria imperialis (Crown imperial or Kaiser's crown) is a species of flowering plant..." Beautiful and smart...that's my Mom!
Linking up with Our World Tuesday, Texture Tuesday, Sweet Shot Tuesday and Orange You Glad It's Friday.
I was in Kitchener also yesterday taking my mom out to lunch. I had to hang onto her belt because I was afraid she would blow away. Snow in May...guess I should have sent Mother N a card, too :)
ReplyDeleteTrue enough. Makes me think about the movie The Day After Tomorrow. LOL
DeleteCold here in Boston too today but hopefully no snow......ice age.......
ReplyDeleteCrazy! Did you see the movie The Day After Tomorrow?
DeleteWhat a lovely tribute to your mom! You have a great blog and so colourful! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
Thanks Wil. I'm so glad to have her in my life!
DeleteWow, the weather is weird! Love the pretty flowers! Beautiful images. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThanks Eileen. So much for global 'warming'.
DeleteGreat colours!! Not totally certain of Boom's age but about ten and a half. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gary. Have a great week!
DeleteWhat a lovely face your mum has! Hope it's warmed up now.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It's still well below seasonal, but we can hope it will warm up again soon.
DeleteWhat a warm personality? Your Mom looks great!
ReplyDeleteThanks. She awesome!
DeleteWe call this plant Crown Imperial or Fritillaria imperialis. It comes in shades of red, orange and yellow.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info. I did a bit more research and found this: "Fritillaria imperialis (Crown imperial or Kaiser's crown) is a species of flowering plant..." Funny because Kaiser translates to King in German and that was also my Mom's maiden name!
DeleteLucky you to still have a mother to take out on Mothers Day. A lovely lady indeed. The liliacious plant is Kaiserkrone (Fritillaria imperialis), in English, it is known as 'Crown Imperial" or Kaiser's Crown.
ReplyDeleteYes, I certainly am lucky to still have Mom in my life! She's incredible! 86 and still living on her own.
DeleteOh wow...snow on Mother's Day. I can't imagine! Wonderful photos - your Mom is lovely. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sherri, I'll let Mom know you think so! Have a great week.
DeleteWow! Snow in May! Looks like you had a lovely time with your mom anyway. The flower is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks. We certainly did have a great day.
DeleteLOL about forgetting the card for Mother Nature! Lovely shots.
ReplyDeleteThanks. How else would you explain snow so late in the season? ;o)
DeletePretty. Not pretty about the snow. :(
ReplyDeleteThanks Tammy.
DeleteYou're blessed - my mom passed away quite a few years ago. It would have been so wonderful to see her on Mother's Day.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree with you more. We almost lost Mom to cancer 15 years ago, but thankfully she pulled through and is still going strong. She an amazing woman!
DeleteWe didn't have snow here in Ohio, but did have to turn furnace back on. In the 30's at night after it had been in the 80's and now back to the 80's tomorrow. Love the part about not sending Mother Nature a Mother's Day Card. ~smiles~
ReplyDeleteLike the picture also. :)
Thanks. Sure hope it warms up again soon.
Deletesounds like you're having similar weather there. 3 weeks ago shorts, and today, back to jackets and sweaters and frost.
ReplyDeleteYup! It's pretty crazy.
DeleteMother Nature doesn't think much of us in the UK as well pouring with rain and sooo cold....
ReplyDeleteI guess the big question is whether or not we're doing this to ourselves with all the environmental issues we've created.
DeleteWow I met a woman form Ontario yesterday at the Grand Canyon and the temps were in the 80's and she was enjoying getting away fro your crazy weather.
ReplyDeleteWish I was at the Grand Canyon too. We Canadians sometimes smile at the misconceptions about our country, but these days we're living up to our reputation as The Great White North! LOL
DeleteWow, snow on Mother's day?! Lovely, both your mom and that flower!
ReplyDeletei know...crazy! I'll let Mom know what you said. I'm sure it will make her day.
DeleteYes, crazy weather. We didn't have snow, but we had a record minimum temperature of 32 degrees F for the day. Amd, today we are in the 90's. That's Nebraska weather.
ReplyDeleteEarl
It has warmed up a bit here, but still pretty cold.
