  2. I love all of your beautiful bird shots! My absolute favorite is of the gull on the cairn! How did you achieve the wonderful blur effect in so many of your images? Interesting texture work on the squirrels.

    Peace!

    1. Thank you Barbara. The blur results when you've got the right depth of field so that your subject is clear and the rest is blurry.

  3. Wonderful photos Linda. Do you use a zoom lens? I've been wanting to get a lens for my camera so I can get close up shots without being close up, but I'm so uneducated in what to look for and what specs to look at on the lenses.

    1. Thanks Terri. I do have a zoom lens. It's an AF-S Nikkor 55-300mm 1:4.5-5.6. I love it, but I am saving up for an even bigger zoom lens so I can get closer yet. I find that right now I take some shots and have to crop to get in close enough (especially with something like the loons-so I'm not disturbing them by getting too close to them). However, having said that, some of these were taken with my iPhone because it was the only camera I had with me at the time. I would recommend you find a good camera shop with an owner that is knowledgable and then let him/her guide you as to what is best for what you want to shoot. I'd offer more help, but I'm just figuring this out myself, and fortunately I have a great local camera shop that is very helpful.

  9. Alright Linda, where do you live that you are getting so many gorgeous varieties of wildlife? The loons always capture my attention and are one of my favorites, but the gull photo is priceless on that cute little rock statuary!

    1. These are all taken at our cottage on Horn Lake, near the little town of Burk's Falls, Ontario. We put out a variety of feeders (hummingbird, niger seed and black sunflowers) and they seem to attract quite a wonderful variety of birds (and other wildlife-red squirrels, raccoons, etc.)

    1. Thanks Natasha. We had such a laugh over those squirrels. Of all the places in the huge forest, they chose the branch right in front of our deck while we all sat out there chatting. Too funny!

  21. Incredibly beautiful bird photos!!!! I especially like the Blue Jay with the peanut [we don't see them this far south in USA, so viewing photos of the gorgeous bird, it's a special treat for me!!].....and that one of the herring gull....LOVE the composition of the image.

    1. Thank you Anni. The gull certainly seemed to be posing for his shot! We really enjoy feeding the Bluejays those peanuts. it's fun to watch them come down and get them from the deck railing. Right now we've even got one that brings along it's young and feeds them up in the tree within our view.
